The clamp-on XACT Water Cut meter provides accurate, reliable and cost effective 0-100% water cut measurement with high accuracy of +/-1% absolute over the whole range. The measurement happens on the outside of the pipe, offering a true non-intrusive clamp-on water cut meter.
Our water cut meter is clamped to the outside of a pipe and measures the percentage of Water-In-Oil (WIO) with ultrasonic signals straight through the pipe wall. The clamp on design allows for easy installation (2-3hrs) and it can be installed close to bends and valves if needed.
By measuring the Speed of Sound (SoS) of acoustic signals through the water and oil mixture, we can determine the water cut.
XSENS has over many years and together with the Christian Michelsen Research Institute and NORCE uniquely created a model to measure the water-in-oil with high accuracy over the full 0-100% water cut range. The distance travelled per unit of time in meter per second (m/s) is very different for water and oil. Therefore, it is possible to measure the water cut in oil in a liquid mixture.
The figure on the right is illustrating that there is not a linear correlation between water cut and Speed of Sound. After years of investigating, XSENS found the correct model (not illustrated).
Since the meter is not in contact with the liquids due to it’s clamp-on design, it is not affected by erosion, corrosion, waxing, scaling or leakages. This makes the meter very reliable and robust, with minimal maintenance required.
It is also possible to measure flow rates of oil and water at the same time as measuring the water cut. This is possible with our other product which combines both measurements: the XACT Liquid Flow & Fraction meter.
This meter is used to measure water cut in harsh industrial environments. It has a lightweight design and is available from 1.5 inch to 36 inch as standard and bigger on request. It comes with an integrated flow computer to provide the required outputs through analogue 4-20ma or digital Modbus signals.
There is no limit on pressure, viscosity or sour service as it does not affect the measurement or the meter itself. There is also no need for static mixers or flow straighteners.
For remote installations we can offer WiFi, cellular and satellite signals while adding solar panels for power. The meter can be accessed remotely through internet connection to be monitored and updated if needed.
Local displays for local reading of measurements can be added on request.
The meter is Ex Zone 1 and 2 certified for hazardous areas and can also be supplied without such certification to reduce cost.
